If you're often caught daydreaming about a sun-soaked beach day, it's time to answer the call of the sand!  It sounds like you are desperately in need of a beach day and we are here to help with beach day recommendations.

Beach Day Essentials

  • Sun Protection: We always opt for mineral sunscreens (Pipette is one of our favorites) but the best sunscreen is the one you’ll wear!  And don’t forget to reapply over and over… and over again.  We are also almost never caught on the beach without a hat.  Gotta protect that precious skin. If your beach doesn’t have any natural shade (the best) then consider an umbrella or some way to create shade for some time out of the sun.
  • Hydration Station: Staying hydrated is most definitely an essential.  We recommend opting for a reusable water bottle rather than plastic disposable bottles pretty please!
  • Entertainment: Beach reads, games, a frisbee, and/or waterproof speakers to play your favorite tunes.  Although… we usually prefer the soothing sound of the waves for our beach days.
  • Beach Towels: This goes without saying but no beach day is complete without one of our Beach Towels.  The best part is that when you head out, you’re not tracking a bunch of sand back with you since our towels are sand resistant.  It’s so hard to choose but the Honey Beach Towel is our current favorite!
  • Snacks: This is especially important if you’re hiking to your beach day destination.  We never want to leave early (or at all) so it’s important to us to bring something to munch on so we don’t have to pack up early. No midday hunger meltdowns here!
  • Everything Bag: The perfect beach companion, no beach trip is complete without the Everything Bag.  The Everything Bag is water resistant and is the perfect place to store your beach reads to keep them dry.  With its easy-to-clean surface and durable material, this beach bag is also perfect for storing post beach wet and sandy swimsuits and flip flops.

Beach Day Tips

  • Arrive Early!  There is nothing like the feeling of having the beach all (or almost all) to yourself.  We love arriving super early so we can see the sunrise.
  • When traveling to a place we’re not familiar with, we like to do a quick Google search and make a list of beaches nearby and how to get to them.  This way you have a backup if the area you’re at gets too crowded.  This was so helpful in the US Virgin Islands!
  • Safety First!  Be aware of warnings in the area, such as warnings for marine life or rip currents. Also be aware of local vegetation that may be dangerous.  A quick Google search should give you the answers to any safety warnings to prepare for.  Consider packing a small first aid kit, especially if you’re hiking to your location for the day.
  • If you’re planning ahead and this isn’t a spontaneous last minute beach day (which we are TOTALLY in favor of by the way), joining local Facebook groups can also be a great way to find out about any local favorite spots, area safety concerns, and how to be a considerate visitor.

Reminders

A few gentle reminders to be a good steward of our beautiful beaches:

Please plan ahead and make sure you are not leaving waste behind and practice leave no trace principles.  We like bringing a spare bag to collect any trash you find on the beach or on our hike in.  You can learn more about leave no trace here: https://lnt.org/.

If you dug holes in the sand, plan enough time to fill them in before leaving as holes can be a hazard for other beach-goers and also turtles coming up on the sand to nest.

Enjoy!

xoxo
